Ancestors of Sue Redfearn

Hi!- and welcome to my Family Tree pages

I first tried researching my family history about 8 years ago - and very quickly gave up on that idea. lol  Back then I knew very little about computers and the internet, but there wasn't a great deal on the web anyway - not on the UK web, or so it seemed.  Nowadays you can find just about anything - as long as you are prepared to put in the work of surfing and finding it.  I have picked up vast quantities of information and data from various well known genealogy web sites, but the nicest form of help I have been given has been from fellow ancestry researchers.  Over the months I have made contact with some great people - many took the time and effort to look up details and dates I couldn't find, others directed me to places I hadn't explored before, and so many are happy to share their information.   I have made contact with distantly removed cousins (on my mother's side) – in far flung places as Canada, USA and Australia – and of course, around England.   Below are listed some special thanks and links to web sites.

Building a family tree is a never ending project - so I found out. lol  You think you have gone back as far as you can go, hit the proverbial brick wall…. and then suddenly, you find a little snippet of information that will set you off on the trail again.  And I am really enjoying researching the Males of Somerset – seeing how they spread their many branches, first out of a small village, then the county… and then the country.  How brave they must have been in those days.  Now I seem to be doing a One-Name-Study! lol  I have been fortunate as quite a few people have already done extensive research on the Males from Barrington – see the links below.

Sorting out the many Males has sometimes been very easy – and other times blooming nigh-on impossible!  lol  So yes, there are mistakes in my tree and I apologize for those, but I am continually pruning and training the branches and would be grateful for any assistance and corrections.

It is my hope that my living relatives (wherever they may be) will make a contribution to these pages - be it just information and dates…. or corrections!  But I really hope they will also supply pictures and photographs and maybe their own memories of people and places. I would like to bring our ancestors back to life for our future generation to know and learn about….. hopefully this web site will do that.

Thank You and Links

Must say a special Thanks to Sue Camsell – one of the first distant relatives I made contact with.  She was a great help and even loaned me her book on Barrington (how trusting!) – and I got lots of pleasure and memory jogging reading that, as well as getting more information and knowledge about my family and the village they lived in.

The “Barrington Book” is mentioned quite a lot in the tree and it is a great book written by Patricia Pearce called “Seventeen cum Sunday”.  It is about the people of the village and the buildings – lots of interesting history and trees.  She has also written a book about the buildings of Shepton Beauchamp – and the people who lived in them… another very interesting book.

Huge Thank You to Jim Male and many others (inc Sarah Hawkins) – who put together a vast collection of Male trees.  The files are available to download, and I should warn you – there are a lot of them!  And thanks to David Male – who is playing host to the Male Trees on his web site.

Another great researcher is Sarah Hawkins – I spend a great deal of time going thru her transcriptions of the Parish Records for Barrington and Shepton Beauchamp etc.

Alan Phillips, another Australian, has an interesting web site called Pioneering Families and his tree has quite a few Males in it.

The MALE Family Gatherings

Peter Hobbs has made a nice site - with some great photos and info on his line of Males

Swains of Somerset

Thank you to Alan Swayne – he has put together lots of info and Parish Record transcriptions on various Somerset families on his web site

Vicki's Vintage Vault

Vicki Hails has done a lot of research too and has put together an interesting site.

And I must say a big thank you to all the great members of Genes Reunited – always willing and able to help and do look-ups…. as well as provide great tips and ideas – and inspiration.
