Maggie Bell

When Maggie Bell's group Stone The Crows broke up in 1973 it was time for Britain's finest female singer to launch her solo career.  Since her earliest days in Glasgow, the Scots lass with the soulful voice had been impressing audiences with her powerful and passionate style.  She was use to singing with bands, but now she was thrust into the spotlight on her own.  She set to work on two albums (produced by the legendary Jerry Wexler), 'Queen Of The Night' (1973) and Suicide Sal'(1975).  They gave her the chance to choose her favourite material and work with the best musicians.  The following tracks are taken from these 2 albums.

We Had It All

In My Life

If You Don’t Know

It’s Been So Long

I Was In Chains

I Saw Him Standing There

Suicide Sal

A Woman Left Lonely

A woman left lonely

Will soon get tired of waiting

And she’ll do crazy things

On lonely occasions

A simple conversation

With a new man now and then

Makes a touchy situation

When a good thing’s coming to an end

And when she gets lonely

She’s thinking about her man

He’s taking her for granted

And she doesn’t understand

And the fevers of the night

They can burn a long lost woman

And all the red-hot traits

Ties to push all love aside

Oh yes it does

And a woman left lonely

Is just a victim of her man

He can’t keep up his homework

So she does the best she can

I’m a woman left lonely

It hurts me so bad

When you leave me alone

Hey babe – have a heart
